The perfect blend of Assam and Ceylon Black Tea

What is English Breakfast Tea?

Assam tea is black tea from the Assam region of India. This tea is widely available and popular for its rich taste and energetic qualities. Assam tea is a black tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Black teas are more strongly oxidised than other types of tea, such as green tea or white tea.

Assam tea is known for its full-bodied malty taste, deep aroma, intense colour and energetic flavour.

Ceylon black tea is a type of tea usually grown in Sri Lanka and formerly called Ceylon. It is exotic and aromatic, with a citrusy, reddish-reddish colour.

Assam tea is named after the Assam region of India, where it is grown. Assam is located along the Brahmaputra River, an area called Brahmaputra Valley in northeast India, bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar. Assam is the largest tea-producing region in the world. Tea here is grown at sea level, in a hot and humid climate. The climatic conditions and terrain contribute to the distinctive malty flavour of Assam tea.

Assam tea is also known as Assam black tea, breakfast tea, English Breakfast tea or Irish Breakfast tea.

Does English Breakfast tea contain caffeine?

Assam tea, like all varieties of black tea, contains caffeine. Black tea tends to be higher in caffeine than other types of tea such as green tea or white tea. However, a cup of Assam tea will still have less caffeine than a standard cup of black coffee.

In general, a cup of Assam tea will contain between 50 and 90 milligrams of caffeine per cup. As a basis for comparison, a cup of black coffee contains around 100-150 milligrams per cup. However, the brewing method and concentration of the tea or coffee will affect the amount of caffeine you consume. A stronger (darker) brew will produce more caffeine.

Benefits and properties of English Breakfast Tea

One of the most likely benefits of Assam tea that you will experience is an increase in energy and an increase in mental alertness due to the caffeine. Many tea drinkers especially enjoy this benefit in the morning.

There are other advertised benefits of Assam tea, but scientists have not been able to confirm with certainty that you will get these benefits when you drink it.

For example, tea consumption has been linked to a reduced risk of cancer. Ongoing research is investigating the link. However, the National Cancer Institute and many other health organisations still maintain that, although there is a possibility that tea may provide cancer-preventing properties, the research is still inconclusive.

In addition, black tea contains polyphenols including catechins, flavonoids and tannins. Polyphenols are plant-based chemicals that may provide health benefits. Researchers have linked flavonoid consumption to important health outcomes, but scientists caution that more research is needed to say with certainty whether black tea can significantly improve your health. But it has been shown that our English Breakfast Tea is an excellent choice for starting your day with energy and vitality.
